One Step Walkers is a Ramblers walking group associated with the Nottinghamshire area of the Ramblers.
We have a regular walks programme throughout the year, with varied walks over the weekends; short evening summer walks on Tuesdays, Thursdays and ‘moonlight’ walks during the winter. Details of all walks can be found on our website.
We also organise weekends away and social events, such as evening meals, theatre visits and Ceilidh’s. We hold a number of group events through the year, such as a walking and picnic event in July and in December we have a very popular Christmas party.
On this website you can find all the necessary information to find the start point and planned route for each walk, as well as a contact number for the walk leader. You can just turn up on the day or let the walk leader know beforehand that you are new and you wish to attend. When you arrive, there will be a short briefing by the walk leader before the walk. At this point they should ask if there are any new walkers or members in attendance.
All our events are organised by volunteers and provide a great opportunity to explore some wonderful countryside, improve your fitness and make new friends. We are a very friendly bunch and welcome new members, so if you haven’t been on one of our walks before, you will soon find yourself talking to others with a similar interest.
We also welcome members with well-behaved dogs on the majority of our walks, though this is down to the discretion of the walk leader. It is important that you check the ‘walks programme’ or contact the walk leader if you are unsure. They will be aware of the terrain and obstacles to overcome on the walk and they are responsible for the welfare of those taking part. Please be mindful that not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and farmers have a legal liability to protect their livestock and property. It is important that dogs are to be kept on their leads whilst on the public highway and in the presence of livestock. More detailed information is also available on the Ramblers website.
The general age range of the group is 40+, though this is not specific. Most members of the group are in the 40’s and 50’s range and this is the way the group has evolved over the years. On rare occasions members have requested to bring along older children. Children under the age of 18 are not covered by insurance and must be accompanied by an adult. This also needs to be agreed with the walk leader prior to attending.
A weekly newsletter email is also available, providing the latest information about what is happening in the coming weeks, together with any other upcoming events or general group bulletins. You will be automatically added to the circulation list if you have opted-in to be contacted by email in your Ramblers membership preferences. You can unsubscribe at any time. We are also on ‘Meetup’ and ‘Facebook’ too.
