Start point Newton Linford car park (by Bradgate Park). LE6 OHB. Charges apply. There are free places to park approximately half a mile away but please respect residential areas. Toilets are available at the car park.
The walk starts with an initial walk up to Old John in the first mile which provides panoramic views around Leicestershire, subject to good visibility.
We then walk towards Woodhouse Eaves and go up to Windmill Hill where the disused windmill is still in existence. We then walk to Woodhouse Eaves where we pass a village shop, should anyone need any refreshments.
Next is the walk to Swithland where we stop off at a village pub for lunch with a large beer garden, which is the 7 mile point. They have a sign which says WE WELCOME WALKERS. Subject of course to current restrictions.
After lunch we walk on to Swithland woods and then soon see the Old John Tower again, from the opposite angle, just visible on the top of Bradgate Park.
Entering Bradgate Park again, we go round the other way to visit the ruins of the birth place of Lady Jane Grey, the famous 9 day Queen. There will be time here for a well earned break and to take in the atmosphere.
Finally we return back to the start point. The walk will be at a leisurely pace so will take around 6 hours so will finish at around 4.30pm.
Anyone who wishes to have a coffee, tea or alcoholic beverage at the end of the walk can do so at the Bradgate pub in the village, a 10 minute walk from the car park.
